Grooming the Groom

Tips for Your Wedding Day Wardrobe.
Kevin Gardner
Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Hopefully, it will be the happiest day of your life, filled with memories and time spent with friends. You’ll want to look back on it fondly, and you’ll have plenty of pictures and videos to help, both from your wedding photographer and your friends.
These pictures will last a lifetime, so you need to make sure you’re wearing an outfit that will look great forever. Here are some simple tips to help you do just that!

Start at the Bottom

Every building needs a strong foundation, right? Every outfit does too. That means your wedding day is not a time to skimp on your undershirt, socks, and underwear. Make sure you have a strong tank top, or V-neck undershirt free of holes or stains.
Avoid a crew neck as it may peak out from under your collar. Make sure you have socks that are strong but breathable. You’ll be in them all day, and you don’t want sweaty feet.
It’s very likely no-one will see your socks, so you can have some fun. Get a fun pair of patterned socks that match your personal style, or better yet, can make your bride giggle if you show them to her.
When it comes to underwear, the guys usually have it easy. Stick with what you normally would wear, whether that means boxers, briefs, or boxer briefs.
Again, just make sure they’re free of holes and stains, and that they won’t make you sweaty and uncomfortable. If you are carrying a little extra weight and feel self-conscious, you can consider shapewear for men to help create a slimmer looking figure. Just make sure you can breathe while you wear it and take it off if you need to.

Insist on the Perfect Fit

Wedding styles have changed over the years. If you decide to go the traditional route of wearing a tuxedo or a suit, do not settle for one that isn’t tailored. If you are renting a tux from a bridal warehouse or chain, they should have every conceivable size available.
Just make sure you go in and have your measurements taken well in advance and try your tuxedo on as soon as possible after it arrives. If it doesn’t hang properly, insist on getting it adjusted or getting a different size. This is where leaving plenty of time is important.
These stores anticipate sizing issues. Some have tailors on staff, others can have new sizes shipped overnight, but if you pick it up with only hours to spare, you’re stuck with what you have.
If you are in the position to have a suit or tux built for you, it should be constructed precisely to your measurements. You are paying for quality; don’t settle. But, again, don’t expect the person tailoring your suit to work through the night to fix a suit just because you waited to pick it up.
On the other hand, if you are on a budget, it is still worth the time and a little money to have alterations made to whatever you are planning to wear. Most cities have tailors or stores that can do this for you.

Vest & Tie Options

When it comes to choosing between vests and cummerbunds, or bowties vs. longer ties, it really comes down to your personal preference. Pick something you look good and feel comfortable in that matches your style. When in doubt, ask your fiancé. She will probably have some great suggestions.

Make Sure You Can Move

In any step of this process, be sure your clothing is functional. You will be standing, sitting, kneeling, and dancing. Make sure everything is comfortable and moveable! Shoes are often tricky in this area, so pay attention to their fit when you try them on.
Your wedding should be perfect. Of course, there are hundreds of things that can go wrong. With a little bit of planning, and these simple tips, your outfit will be one less thing to worry about on your big day!
