Although, a wedding ceremony is something that is supposed to be traditional, I believe that every generation has added its own modern touch to it. A traditional ceremony with a personalized modern touch, is something that most couples go for.

Unlike traditional wedding invitations, the modern approach gives couples and their families more chance to open up in a creative way.

You followed your heart and are marrying the person you love, so why not follow your heart and frame the wordings that are efficient enough to tell people, that they are important enough to be a part of your celebration? At times, simple invitations are preferred over complicated ones. Basically you have to include all the necessary information and details.

Must-have Information to Include

Before you frame the structure and wordings of your wedding card, it is very important to keep in mind the essential information that you can't afford to miss. The main purpose of this card is to tell the invitees that a wedding is taking place, and that they are requested to be a part of it.

Therefore, it is very important to include the following information as clearly as possible. Information about the host Wedding time and date Venue Reception details RSVP Optional details Once you have this list, it will be easy for you to frame the appropriate wordings.

Some Samples

The first step is to mention the hosts who are paying for the ceremony. Traditionally, the bride's parents host the wedding. But in modern times, there is no hard-and-fast rule in this respect. We see the parents of both, the bride and groom, hosting the wedding together; many times the bride and groom themselves host the ceremony. Listed below are some invitation samples based on different approaches. You can have a look and choose what suits you the best.

If the Bride's Parents are Hosting

Mr. and Mrs. David Smith request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Jane Smith to Robert Johnson on Saturday, the sixth of November at two o'clock in the afternoon Terril United Methodist Church 1234 Hector Avenue Terril, Virginia

If Both, the Bride's and Groom's Parents are Hosting

If the Bride and Groom are Hosting

If the Bride and Groom are Hosting but Want to Mention the Parents

Together with their parents Jane Leigh Smith and Robert Wade Brown request the honor of your presence at their marriage Saturday, the sixth of November at three o'clock in the afternoon Terril United Methodist Church 1234 Hector Avenue Terril, Virginia

Important Things to Note in the Aforementioned Samples

The day and month should always start with a capital letter. If the ceremony is at a holy place, then always include the term, 'request the honor of your presence'. If the ceremony is at a secular location, you can use other phrases.

Most of the samples include long-handed numbers. There is no hard-and-fast rule to it, however, keep in mind that 4:30 pm, when written in words, should either be 'four-thirty in the afternoon' and not four thirty. Likewise, years are spelled out without using '-' sign.

Some Unique Wordings

The aforementioned samples were simple and appropriate, representing more of a traditional way. However, as I have mentioned earlier, when it comes to a modern invitation, you can experiment as far as your creativity takes you. Most couples also go for red-colored invitations, as red is the color of love and romance. As long as you are doing what you like, and including all the necessary information, you are good to go.

Also keep in mind that you put an RSVP card along with it, mentioning the email address to respond to, and the date by which the invitees are expected to reply to your invitation. An example for the same would be -

The favor of a reply is requested Please respond by June nineteenth M_________________________ Will_______________________ # of guests ______ Just remember, try to keep it unique by writing what you feel. It is your special day, and if you are not following the tradition, you have all the freedom in the world. As long as the guests know when and where to come, you are good to go. All the best!
