Before you send out those 'thank you' notes, there are a few etiquette to consider. Read the story to know exactly what they are.
After returning from your honeymoon, and you've had time to settle into your new life, it's time to get cracking on the 'thank you' notes. But you can't simply say thanks and be done with it. There are some etiquette that have to be followed.
Always Follow the Rules
Why are the notes so important? Well, because these notes are a way of acknowledging those who attended your wedding, or couldn't attend but sent you a gift.
What's an Appropriate Timeline?
A good way to begin is by seeing when the gifts are arriving. Some gifts will arrive via mail, and others may be given to you during the reception. In order to keep a track on all of them, begin writing the notes as soon as the gifts arrive.
This way, if your guest list is let's say, 100, 200, or more, you won't have to write them all at the same time. Make sure you give yourself enough time to send them out as well. After the wedding, you have about 6―8 weeks worth of time.
Who Gets a Note?
The people who will be receiving your notes are:
First and foremost, the newlyweds' parents.
People who gave you gifts or money for your engagement, bridal shower, wedding, and/or reception.
Everyone who attended the engagement party (if you had one), bridal shower, wedding, and/or reception party.
The suppliers and vendors for the food, cake, decorations, etc. for the wedding.
So basically, whoever helped you in any way to make your wedding a dream come true, they all get a card.
Do Words Fail You?
One of the most important things to remember is―make sure you send handwritten notes. This means, no pre-written or pre-ordered cards will be excepted. Each card, even if most of them have the same words, have to seem personalized and unique.
Always use black or blue ink on the formal note cards. If you want, you can even customize the cards by getting both your initials inscribed. Or a simple 'Thank You' stamped on the card would also do. If the guest has given you a gift, mention it by name and say something nice about it; even if you don't like it.
Keep the words as concise as possible; short is definitely sweet. It's pleasant to read the note when you don't stuff it with too many details. And finally, place the notes in individually-addressed envelopes that have your return address on it.
Some people don't think too much about these notes, but in reality, they hold a deep meaning. You took a big step in your life and the people who were witness to that, became much more important in your life as well. These etiquette are only for guidance, to show you how easy it is to express your true feelings.
