Dresses to Wear to a Winter Wedding as a Guest

When considering dresses to wear to a winter wedding, for both, men and women, you ought to first find out how formal the event is, the venue, and the time of the event. All these factors will help you decide.
For instance, if it is a black tie wedding, you don't have much of an option but to wear a tuxedo for men, and a full length cocktail gown for women. However, there are other manners in which you can make this outfit look classy and appropriate.

For Men

As mentioned earlier, unless clearly specified, you needn't wear a tuxedo to a winter wedding. Instead, you could opt for a good pair of well-fitted slacks in safe colors, such as black, navy blue, or tan. Choose a smart long sleeved shirt that matches the trouser, preferably made of a silk or woolen blend to keep you warm.
Avoid prints except some mild stripes. Usually, solid colored shirts are a good idea, that contrast well with the pants and make for an appropriate attire for men. Closed shoes with socks that match the shoes are a good idea. Choose from winter colors, such as plum, navy blue, green, burgundy, wine, tan, chocolate brown, and black.
However, mix and match well so that you don't look like you are off for a business meeting. To keep yourself warm, wear a sweat-proof undershirt, that preferably matches the shirt you are wearing. Top it up with a jacket, and keep the overcoat only for periods of travel, unless it is an outdoor wedding.
For instance, a lot of people like weddings amid the snow or at the beach. Places such as these, particularly in the evenings, can get very chilly. As such, say if you are looking for beach wedding dresses for guests during winter, ensure you choose a stylish overcoat that looks good enough to wear to a wedding.
Men may also wear a scarf, a hat, and gloves as interesting accessories to enhance their outfits. All these enhancements are great for outdoor winter wedding. Preferably avoid the black and white combination, as that solely belongs to the groom.

For Women

Call it biased if you may, but it is a fact that women do have a much larger choice when it comes to choosing dresses to wear to a wedding, be it summer or winter. Usually, women are suggested to wear knee-length dresses in the colors that have been mentioned for men as well.
These colors include deep blue, burgundy, deep green, a dark red or maroon, wine, or even gold. A lot of women liken winter to black. While it's a good choice, there are many other beautiful colors. Thus, avoid black, if it is a day wedding. As a guest, you may wear dress with lace, ruffles, soft prints, or pleats.
Depending on your age, you may also choose to wear trousers with a pretty blouse and jacket. While wearing a knee-length dress, you may choose to wear stockings or tights underneath. Ensure these are of good quality as you don't want to look very casual.
If you are looking for a cute dress, choose those with a slight flair, not too baggy, and perhaps strapless ones.
Cover up with a wrap or a bolero for warmth. Women may also choose to wear winter wedding dresses with sleeves. These look as classy as the strapless ones, and are most appropriate to keep yourself a little warmer.
Now every dress need not be designer, and you can even look for cheap dresses to wear to a wedding. This dress you can enhance by wearing interesting accessories. Add in chunky but classy jewelry, scarves, and even a hat perhaps, to complete your look.
As much as looking good matters, so does keeping yourself warm. There is no rule that says you can't do both when deciding what to wear to a winter wedding.
