Ask any newly married couple and they are likely to tell you that planning a wedding includes an extensive list of tasks, far greater than anyone originally anticipates. For many couples, one of the more exciting tasks on the list is creating the wedding registry.
Compiling a wish list of gifts as you dream of a new life together can be thrilling for any couple, but before you start adding everything you can think of to your registry, consider taking some time to really think about some of the oftentimes overlooked - but incredibly useful - items you may want to add.

1. Tools

A basic tool set is nearly essential for any adult, married or not. Having immediate access to simple tools like a hammer, screwdriver and tape measure can make completing routine maintenance projects fast and easy.
You may find yourself surprised at how frequently you will use the tools. If you already have a basic tool set, consider registering for small power tools like drills and saws that will take your collection to the next level.

2. A Custom Mattress

Considering that you spend nearly a third of your life sleeping, adding a custom mattress to your registry may be one of the smartest requests you can make. Custom mattresses are becoming easier to find, and many can be ordered online and delivered directly to your doorstep.
Be sure to research your options and determine the best fit for your needs; this may be a great opportunity for your an your fiance to discuss individual sleep needs and styles (mattress firmness, temperature, etc.).

3. A Grill

Many engaged couples think about the utensils and equipment needed for cooking in a kitchen but may overlook the equipment needed for cooking outside - the grill.
A wedding is a great time to ask for a higher-end grill to make your backyard barbecue events a breeze. Having a grill on your registry may help to ensure that you don't hit your first summer as a married couple and realize you don't have one.

4. Patio Furniture

Once you the food cooked on your new grill, you'll need somewhere for people to sit and enjoy it! Enter in the gift of patio furniture. Before registering for patio furniture, think about the space you will have in your home and how many seats you expect to need for most occasions. Be smart about your space before committing to a patio set that won't fit.

5. Adventure Gear

If you and your significant other plan to travel or spend time outdoors, think about adding some gear to your registry. Items like backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, hiking boots, kayaks, and so on are unique items to add to your registry.
If you are avid outdoor explorers, you may even want to register at a store that specializes in these items in order to make shopping easier for your guests.

6. High-End Appliances

A wedding registry is the perfect place for those unique appliances you see your mother use, even if you aren't quite sure how you are going to use them to start.
Appliances like stand mixers, food processors, food savers, blenders and juicers are oftentimes not considered by those newly engaged. You can also do some research and ask those who have certain appliances whether or not they find themselves using them and how frequently.

7. Honeymoon Funds

A newer trend among wedding registries is a honeymoon fund. Online sites have made it easy for wedding guests to help pay for nights at your hotel, romantic dinners, excursions or any other part of your honeymoon experience.
Setting up your honeymoon itinerary make take additional time up-front, but once it's done your guests will be able to sponsor your adventure with the click of a button.
Most wedding guests are seeking the opportunity to bless the newly married couple with something unique and longstanding, so taking some extra care to create a registry that includes thoughtful, highly used items can be a solid use of your time when planning your wedding.
